The management scientists behind the study found that the mere potential of being observed was just as effective as actually being observed in ensuring that no spontaneity or dangerous innovation could occur in employees’ work.

Other effective measures include a device that automatically breathes down employees’ necks as they work, and an observation camera in the shape of the all-seeing Eye of Sauron, both of which ensure that all employee time is micro-managed down to the micro-second.
